Why a TractorBumper

TractorBumper enhances the visibility of your tractor’s width, shields the wheels and increases the appreciation of other road users. With integrated storage space and optional front weight, it completes your tractor with a tough look and a perfect finish.

WHY a bumper

  • Clear width lighting that shows the exact wheel width (not 40 cm narrower as per regulations). Day and night: in fog, low winter sun, in the evening and at night.
  • Underrun protection like on your tipping trailer, which shields the wheels.

Visible

Quicker and more accurate vehicle recognition by other road users with exact-width lighting. Ensure that other road users quickly and accurately assess the width of the tractor’s wheels. Standard tractor lighting does not indicate the full width of the tractor. According to regulations, the width lamps of a tractor can be positioned up to 40 cm from the outer edge of the tractor. The width lights on the bumper indicate the exact width of the tractor (thanks to the adjustable side panels) at the eye level of the car driver.

Underrun protection

Underrun protection, like on your tipping trailer, is in our opinion not a luxury at the front of your tractor. It helps reduce the risk of other road users getting caught under the wheels in an accident. Unfortunately, in many practical situations, it has been shown that a tractor, especially in a head-on collision, can easily climb onto the car. In most cases, the front wheel ends up in the windshield of the car. TractorBumper shields the wheels. In the event of a collision, front underrun protection helps prevent even more severe consequences.

  • Deflecting a car to the side (That’s why we make them streamlined);
  • Preventing wheels from ending up on top of the car’s windshield;
  • Utilizing the car’s crumple zone.

The adjustable height of the bumper (thanks to its use in the front lift) allows you to drive with the bumper at the legally required 40 cm height (the height of a car’s bumper).

Functional

TractorBumper combines safety and visibility with front weight and a storage box. We see our SafetyWeight models as a new, future-proof version of a standard weight block.

Did you know that….

  • that there are an average of 16 deaths and 100 serious injuries in accidents involving agricultural vehicles in the Netherlands every year (period 1999 – 2008)?
  • A total of 116 road casualties with the following means of transport were driving: – 50 (car or van) – 18 (moped) – 17 (bicycle) – 12 (motorcycle or scooter) – 14 (agricultural vehicle) – 5 (other)?
  • most of the casualties are not among drivers of agricultural vehicles, but on ‘the other side’ (an average of 13 deaths and 89 serious injuries per year)?
  • accidents involving an agricultural vehicle are three times more likely to be fatal than accidents involving a passenger car and one and a half times more likely to be fatal than accidents involving a heavy commercial vehicle (lorry, truck with trailer or bus)?
  • 26% of the casualty accidents involving an agricultural vehicle occur within built-up areas and 74% outside built-up areas? In the majority of cases, these are municipal roads or roads of a water board.
  • In fatal crashes, cyclists have the highest share with 21%, followed by motorcycles/scooters with 19%?

The why

Practical (farmer’s son) sounds like music to my big ears. With a passion for agricultural engineering and six years developing drum mowers at Kuhn, I started drawing the bumper in 2013.

"Definitely sure the bumper prevented something worse. The bumper protected the front wheels and the front lift, preventing the car from getting under the front wheels."

Contractor Gebr. van Eijck

Simon van Eijck "I'm quite sure the bumper reduced the impact here. It's clearly visible that the car scraped along the bumper."

Contractor J. van den Brand BV.

J. van den Brand "It would have been completely different without the bumper, no doubt!"
